Inside the landfill the landfills usually wait the trucks to dump their loads to be able to grab the most precious waste. Once the truck gets ready to unload the younger and the children start running to get a better position. The waste-collector families sleep, eat, play, live on the top of the mountain of rubbish. Parents work all day, older children raise the siblings. Lack of adequate footwear walking on landfill causes injuries. Living in contact with waste, the injuries become infected causing disease and death.

Waste-collectors are 90% women. The Indian woman woman is usually barefoot but, to walk outside private environments, she wears sandals or a particular type of shoe called "jutti". It's an open shoe that covers the back of the heel and the tip of the toes, leaving the ankle and the instep uncovered. The P.P.E. designed is inspired by this traditional shoe and provide the necessary protection during the worktime. It’s an everyday shoe, easy to put on and off. Wearable in two different ways, it is adjustable by the owner and provides protection from foot crushing and sole perforation. Entirely made of rubber, it is resistant and washable.
